The Yas Marina Circuit, where the annual Abu Dhabi F1 takes place, is one of my favorite tracks and tends to be one of the last races of the F1 season.
In the last few years, the championship has been decided before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix but this circuit is sometimes vital as a circuit where the title is sometimes decided.
When and Where
- Dates: 6th to 8th December 2024 (Updates)
- Venue: Yas Marina Circuit
History of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has now been running for almost 15 years with the first race taking place in 2009, at the Yas Marina Circuit, which was specifically built for this event.
The race track is located on Yas Island, an entertainment and leisure destination in Abu Dhabi, and has a capacity of around 60,000 spectators.
The Yas Marina Circuit
The Yas Marina Circuit is known for its state-of-the-art facilities and stunning architecture.
The circuit consists of 21 turns and has a length of 5.55 kilometers, making it one of the longest circuits in the F1 calendar.
The most iconic part of this circuit is the Yas Viceroy Hotel, which straddles the track and offers amazing views of the race to its guests.
Race Weekend Experience
As with all F1 races, the event itself takes place over 3 – 4 days, starting with qualifying and culminating with the main race on Sunday.
This particular F1 follows the standard 3-day schedule in that it is not one of the sprint race weekends that are set for the coming season. So you can normally expect:
- Friday practice session 1
- Saturday practice sessions 2 and 3 and qualifying
- Sunday race day
Things to Do
Aside from watching the thrilling F1 action on the track, there are plenty of other activities to do during your visit to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The Yas Marina Circuit offers a variety of tours and experiences, including track walks, driving experiences, and behind-the-scenes tours of the pit lane and team garages.
Additionally, you can also enjoy performances by international music artists at the after-race concerts.
Where to Stay & Accommodation
As with any grand prix, booking early is essential as most destinations that hold an F1 race weekend see a spike in demand for accommodation.
Getting to the Circuit
The Yas Marina Circuit is located on Yas Island, which is easily accessible from the city center.
You can travel to the circuit by taxi, bus, or car rental.
There are also shuttle services available from certain locations during race weekend and this can be the easiest way to get to the circuit.
